Summit: Denali - Entry + Medal
Collect your gear. Set out for Alaska. Start your trek by hiking up 2195m (7,200 ft) to the first base camp, located on the Southeast Fork of the Kahiltna Glacier. Here, you will find a hub of activities, with climbers coming and going at all hours. Most climbers spend very little time here before heading out later that night or early the next morning, taking advantage of the abundance of light.
Pushed upwards by the subduction of the Pacific Plate under the North American Plate, Mount Denali sits atop the Alaskan mountain range. Denali translates to “The Big One”, rising to 6,190m (20,310 ft) and taking the position of the tallest peak in North America. Grab your shoes and find some hills; it is time to test your mettle against the mountain and earn your medal at the summit.
Can you conquer Denali, or will the mountain conquer you?
